Our work

Support, advocacy and accountability—grounded in lived experience.

LOC works alongside incarcerated people, returning citizens and families through prison family support, reentry resources, public speaking, advocacy and federal prison oversight.

01

Advocacy & accountability

Advocating alongside people.

We listen to people living through incarceration, raise concerns with those who can act, and keep pushing for answers and better conditions. We believe strong advocacy and constructive relationships can work together.

02

Family support & education

Families deserve a clearer place to start.

Families should not have to figure out incarceration alone. LOC helps people find useful information, understand their options, connect with community and reach outside resources when those resources are the best fit.

Reentry & returning citizens

Coming home is not the end of the story.

Coming home brings a new set of questions. LOC helps people preparing for release and returning citizens connect with reentry information, support networks, community organizations and opportunities that may help.

04

Speaking & education

Lived experience can change a room.

LOC leaders and members speak about incarceration, family impact, advocacy, rehabilitation, recovery, reentry and meaningful reform in correctional, academic, nonprofit, faith, community and media settings.

Oversight & documentation

Turning people’s experiences into a public record.

LOC gathers and reviews testimony, photographs, video, documents, family reports, incarcerated-person reports and recurring facility concerns. Reports identify patterns, preserve voices and encourage responsible action.

Community & institutional relationships

Relationships are part of the work.

We stay connected with families, returning citizens, advocates, nonprofits, faith communities, correctional leaders, researchers and others who care about this work. Those relationships help information move and open doors for practical change.
